Take a Stand for Christ
In Revolution this month we are talking about taking a stand for Christ in your school. Every one of us who claims to be a Christian is called to shine the light of Jesus into our school. Every school needs that light and we are called to shine. There are so many places we can make a stand for Christ like in sports, in the classroom, with our friends, by respecting our teachers and administrators, and every place we go and in everything we do.
September 23rd through the 26th is Spiritual Emphasis. During these few days we will have two special services for Revolution. One will be Sunday night September 23rd @ 6pm in the Sanctuary and the other will be Wednesday September 26th in the Rev Room @ 7pm. Chad Woods will be our featured speaker, he is a young man who came up through the Oasis and has felt a call on his life to minister to young people. He worked with the Rockford Masters Commission for the last few years and has now joined our staff. There are two friendship building events during spiritual emphasis which you won’t want to miss.
Our Back to School Bash is on September 23rd from 4pm -8:30pm. This night will include a photo scavenger hunt, a special youth service, and dinner. The winning team for the scavenger hunt will receive $10 gift cards to Kicks. Speaking of Kicks, Revolution is going to meet there the very next night (September 24th) for free pizza. We will meet at Kicks at 6pm and stay until 8pm. The cost for the Back to School Bash is $5 and the cost for Kicks is whatever you want to spend on games. Rev will cover the pizza. Hope to see you at both these events cause I love hangin out with jr. high students.
Green Cucumbers Win Wacky Olympics
And the Winners of the 2007 Wacky Olympics is…The GREEN CUCUMBERS!

Congratulations guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wacky Olympics
Wacky Olympics last week (August 2007) rocked! All four teams came ready to win. The evening started off with serious (or not so serious) opening ceremonies. With our torches lit, we were ready to go!
The games included the caterpillar race, the frozen chicken throw, alka-seltzer tag and a whole bunch more. By the end of the night our bums were sore and our clothes were wet, but there were still smiles on everyone’s faces. The battle was fought and over. Whhew!
We don’t know who won yet, but come this Wednesday night and find out. Go Blue Team!
I mean…good luck everyone.
Revolution Small Group Night 8-1-07
Revolution watched an amazing video tonight, and then we broke down into small groups and discussed the lesson. The video talked about true guilt and false guilt. True guilt is the Holy Spirit convicting you for doing something wrong. False guilt is when Satan lies to you to make you feel bad about something you had no control over. Guilt is an alarm that tells us when something is wrong, so we need to listen to it. However, we also need to know the difference between true guilt and false guilt. True guilt draws us closer to God and false guilt separates us from God. We also had snacks and picked teams for Wacky Olympics. Who’s gonna win?
Come to Revolution
Are you bored? Do you have nothing to do? Are you looking for something cool, electrifying and amazing to occupy your time? If the answer to all these questions is “YES” then you need to come to Revolution. Revolution is “the place to be” in Springfield for sixth through eighth grade students. We have a whole summer full of incredible activities and opportunities for you to hang out with other Jr. High students. Whether it’s ice cream, swimming, tacos, rap music, pizza, climbing the hill in Centennial Park, going to KICKS, or getting slimed playing totally weird and wacky games, Revolution is a brilliant and astonishing place to be. Come join us. For more info, you can e-mail me at rjohnson@calvaryspringfield.org.
My First Week In Africa
Greetings from South Africa!
I have been in South Africa for almost a week and am slowly adjusting to the 8 hour time difference. Thankfully it was not a busy weekend and Ed and Sonja have let me take things easy the past few days. I had my first experience in a South African church this past Sunday. It was definitely a lot different from what I am used to, but it was a lot of fun. Ed and Sonja were doing a small crusade for this church, so after we arrived we set up, dressed two people from the church up in crocodile and gorilla suites, loaded them into the back of the trailer and drove around the area making the announcement about the children’s program over the loud speaker. The kids reacted very well to this, they end up running behind the trailer to follow us back to the church. After we gathered the kids Ed and Sonja started the service, and ended with an altar call. We had about 120 kids attend and more than half of them raised their hands to accept Jesus.
This week I have started spending my days in the office. Right now things are a bit slow. We leave on Friday for our yearly planning meeting at a game farm then we have a conference and a camp the following weekends. I look forward to emailing you about these experiences.
Thank you for all your prayers and continued support.
Amanda
